Daniel P. Reigle carried the flag of the 87th Pennsylvania at Cedar Creek. He was one of 21 soldiers awarded the Medal of Honor after the Battle of Cedar Creek. His medal is on display at Gettysburg National Military Park, near Reigle’s home in Adams County.

Reigle served in Company F of the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment from 1861 through 1865. Reigle became the regiment's color bearer in September 1864. He was wounded in that role at Fisher’s Hill on September 22. A month later he had recovered from his wound and fought at Cedar Creek on October 19.

Shortly after the Battle of Cedar Creek, Reigle reported to Washington, DC, where President Lincoln presented a Medal of Honor "for marked bravery displayed on the battlefield... and for gallantry rushing forward through a terrific fire and capturing a Rebel Flag..."
