| Charles Castimore served as a Private in Company G of the 19th Ohio Infantry. The 19th Ohio mustered into service on September 25, 1861. Castimore and his regiment saw action in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky though the year of 1862. They returned to Tennessee at the close of that year and marched towrd Murfreesboro on December 26, 1862. On December 31, 1862, Castimore and his regiment stalled Confederate attacks along Asbury Lane and the Nashville Pike. On January 2, 1863 they were drive from their positions overlooking the Stones River by Confederate Gen. John C. Breckinridge's division. Once the Confederate stalled under a barrage from 57 Union cannons, the regiment surged forward and drove the Confederates back reclaiming the ground they lost and more and sealing their victory. Castimore perished during that back and forth fight and is buried in plot D-1404 of Stones River National Cemetery. |
