Burdine Estep worked in the Lemon mine and on the Portage where he worked as a driver along the entire length of the railroad.

He worked at the Nail Mill in Duncansville, the Vesuvius and Aetna furnances and continued to be involved coal mining. 

He married Lydia in 1858 and had the following children: Mary E., Thomas Arthur, Fannie B., Sarah C., Henry C., Amy F., Effie A., Laura G., George M., Albert B., and Robert L.
