Clyde James Bennett was born on September 5, 1931 and has his home of record listed as Auburn, Logan County, Kentucky. He was a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force serving in the 374th Organizational Maintenance Squad, 374th Tactical Airlift Wing, 13th Air Force.

In 1963, he was the crew chief for maintenance on-board staff for a C-130 that flew around the world after taking off from Sewart Air Force Base to show a new way to deliver priority supplies by air. He later served in Vietnam, starting his tour on October 16, 1969.

Bennett died of a heart attack on October 14, 1969 in the Gia Dinh province, South Vietnam. He had served for 18 years and was married, leaving behind his wife. Bennett was awarded a National Service Defense Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is honored at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. on panel 16W, line 3 and is buried at Stones River National Cemetery in plot Q-6848.
