Barnes, Ernest Brown

Ernest Brown Barnes was born on October 22, 1907, in Williamson County, Tennessee. He grew up in College Grove, where he worked in his father’s garage and family mercantile business before answering the call to serve his country during World War II.
Barnes served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army, assigned to a tank division. He fought in one of the most grueling campaigns of the war, the Battle of the Bulge. On December 31, 1944, in Luxembourg, Barnes was killed in action, making the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
Ernest Brown Barnes is remembered for his bravery and dedication, and his grave at Stones River National Cemetery honors his service to the nation. He is laid to rest in plot P-6294.
