Born Adam Huhn in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1839, he moves to Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware and works as a brickmaker until enlisting in October 1861 as a sergeant.
June 1862 Adam is reduced in rank to private, though the details of the demotion are unspecified.
At Fredericksburg (December 1862) Adam is wounded and is in hospital through February. He is captured during the battle of Gettysburg on July 2 and dies on the 3rd.
