THE COVER

Abraham Lincoln, the man, and the environment and conditions attending his birth are symbolized in the cover. The ink line drawing of the cabin is a faithful reproduction of the traditional Lincoln birthplace cabin, the one now preserved in the Memorial Building at Abraham Lincoln National Historical Park. The seated figure is a photographic reproduction of the Lincoln statute in the town square of Hodgenville, 3 miles distant from the birthplace. This striking image of the man is the work of A. A. Weinmann, a pupil of St. Gaudens, and was pronounced by Robert Todd Lincoln to be a "noble statue" of his father.
