September 24, 1780

Built by Jacob Womack sometime before 1774, Fort Womack served to protect the surrounding settlers from attacks by Native Americans in times of war. As the men from Virginia traveled south towards Sycamore Shoals, they encamped near Fort Womack on the night of September 24, 1780 where they were joined by Jacob Womack in their endeavor. The fort was located northeast of Bluff City, Tennessee, across the Holston River.

Fort Womack is on private property so it is not open to the public. The landowners allow local school children to attend historical activities on the property each year around the time of the anniversary of the march.

As the site of the fort is not open to the public there are no parking or facilities available.
