With the Patriot forces split, the southern group under William Campbell descended this Black Bear Creek to the Catawba River and the reunion with the northern group.

This is a 2.3 mile trail through game land managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. It is a natural surface trail, and be cautious as this is active game land. Parking is available at Lake James Road near where it meets Manna Drive or a small portion of the trail can be driven to another hunter vehicle access parking area.

There are no facilities or amenities available at this location.
