Our world and society are constantly evolving and changing - the same is true for NPS wilderness. The Wilderness Stewardship Division (WSD) recognizes the importance of staying current on different pressures wilderness faces and emerging tools and technologies that can help address these changes.

In partnership with the interagency Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center, the WSD offers place-based and online wilderness trainings for NPS staff and partners. Curriculum and topics are constantly being updated to reflect the most pressing issues facing wilderness, including:Place-based, local wilderness trainings for NPS staff

  • Regional interdisciplinary trainings for interagency wilderness staff and partner
  • National Wilderness Leadership Training for park superintendents and other interagency leadership positions
  • Hot topic webinars (i.e. US Border Patrol & Wilderness; Ecological Restoration in Wilderness; Minimum Requirements Analysis; etc.)
  • Wilderness Certificate Programs
A robust suite of FREE WILDERNESS TRAININGS and information are available to the public on Wilderness Connect, the interagency website for the National Wilderness Preservation System.
