SOAR Hosts Biennial SHPO Meeting

Two Day Meeting a Success

January 10-11, 2017

According to the Programmatic Agreement for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, each national park service unit is required to hold a biennial meeting with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). In addition, Kathryn Leonard was named the new State Historic Preservation Officer in September 2016. Southern Arizona Office (SOAR) staff coordinated with SHPO and parks to host the biennial meeting in January 2017, wherein park staff were able to meet Leonard, and participate in successful meetings with SHPO staff.

SOAR staff also coordinated and led trainings for park resource managers and superintendents while each park was having their one-on-one meeting with SHPO staff. It was a packed and successful two days!
