Document cultural landscapes in national parks through ArcGIS Field Maps (training provided), descriptive narrative, mapping, and photography. The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) raises awareness of our national parks and historic sites, their accessibility, and the need for the Latino community’s involvement in their preservation through meaningful and relevant science-based internships. This position is supported in partnership with LHIP and the nonprofit, Environment for the Americas.

Preservation Maintenance Research Associate

Produce a Turf Management Guide for Historic Cemeteries. Supported in part through a grant from the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT), this effort will identify the best management practices for the places in our nation’s cemeteries where vegetation intersects with historic grave markers and sculpture. The Associate will be guided by a national advisory group consisting of historic preservationists, landscape architects, and turfgrass scientists.

Flight 93 National Memorial Arboriculture and Urban Forestry Intern

Work as part of a team to develop a plan for and implement Integrated Pest Management, rejuvenative pruning, and condition monitoring within the Flight 93 National Memorial’s nationally significant tree groves. The Associate may also be involved in projects at other sites within the National Parks of Western Pennsylvania.

Digital Media Specialist

Explore communication formats to improve how the Olmsted Center shares cultural landscape stories with the public. As a member of the Olmsted Center team, the Digital Media Specialist will create digital media projects that will improve the visitor experience and sharing stories that capture the diverse perspectives shaping our cultural landscape heritage.

Arboricultural and Urban Forestry Intern, Flight 93 National Memorial

Develop and implement a plan for Integrated Pest Management and soils remediation action for trees within the Memorial Groves at Flight 93 National Memorial.

GIS and App Development Associate

Build and beta-test a web-based mobile app for tree inventory and condition assessment which will allow for integration of data collection with the arboricultural field manual. They will support and participate in the collection of field data using GIS and develop GIS data structures to capture information through the ESRI Collector. The ideal candidate will have strong GIS skills and experience building custom apps with App Studio and Qt Creator with knowledge of gdb management in ArcPro.
