Natural Resources Research Coordination

Overview

The Research Coordinator assists parks in outlining research needs to address their natural resource issues, finding principal investigators and subject matter experts, creating proposals and implementation plans, and coordinating funding calls and ranking panels. The coordinator fosters collaborative research and partnerships with universities, non-governmental organizations, and state and federal agencies. The Research Coordinator monitors funded projects and administers fund sources, assisting parks with negotiating cooperative agreements.

Contact

Annual Fund Sources

  • NPS Servicewide Comprehensive Call (SCC) - Each fall, NPS has a unified funding call which includes fund sources for natural resource protection programs and cooperative landscape conservation.
  • US Geological Survey Funds - USGS jointly funds natural resources protection program with NPS for both terrestrial and water quality issues. Parks submit science needs statements, and USGS scientists submit proposals to meet those needs.
  • White-nose Syndrome Funds - Congress gave the US Fish and Wildlife Service and NPS funds to study white-nose syndrome in bats in recent years. This call is outside of the Servicewide Comprehensive Call, but usually occurs in late summer.
