In 2023, the National Park Service combined two partner land protection strategies into an overarching trailwide Land Protection Plan for the New England National Scenic Trail. In 2018, the Connecticut Forest and Park Association spearheaded the effort when they began their Land Protection Strategy for the entirety of the 800+ mile Blue-Blaze hiking network in CT, which includes the New England Trail. In 2022, the Appalachian Mountain Club refined the process and finalized their own Land Protection Strategy for the New England Trail in Massachusets. Finally, in 2023 these plans were combined and further developed to meet federal register requirements for a trail wide Land Protection Plan which can be accessed below. The NPS and it's partners continue to refine, update, and evaluate opportunities for conserving and protecting the NET for future generations.
