Notice to the Public: Road Closures & Public Use Limits at Fort Dupont Park for Chuck Brown Day

August 11, 2025: At the request of the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation (DC DPR), the National Park Service is imposing the following closures and public use limits. Fort Dupont Drive SE between Randle Circle SE and Fort Davis Drive SE, Fort Davis Drive SE from Massachusetts Avenue SE to Ridge Road SE, and the alley connecting Ely Place SE to F Street SE will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 6:00 am until approximately 11:59 pm. This closure and public use limitation is to provide for the safety of park visitors attending the permitted Annual Chuck Brown Day event at Fort Dupont Park. Additionally, at the request of the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, the National Park Service is also imposing a public use limitation and will not allow into the event:

  • Weapons

    • Any pointed object(s), to include knives of any kind

    • Aerosols

    • Firearms, Ammunition, Fireworks, Laser Pointers, Stun Guns, Tasers,

    • Mace/Pepper Spray, Toy Weapons

    • Any Other Items Determined to be Potential Safety Hazards

  • Alcohol

  • Illegal substances

  • Glass containers

  • Open flames

  • Coolers larger than 29.5”x16”x19”

  • Umbrellas

  • Tents

  • All pets must remain on leashes

Violation is prohibited. A map illustrating the closed park areas is attached.

Persons using these park areas should remove themselves and any personal property in violation of the above closures and public use limitations from the closed park areas by 6:00 am on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
