Notice to the Public of a Temporary Closure of Park Central Road in Greenbelt Park
Map of closed areas at Greenbelt Park
NPS
May 5, 2026: The Park Central Road loop in Greenbelt Park, from south of Park Headquarters off Greenbelt Road, Park Central Road and the Dogwood Trail intersection, Sweetgum and Park Central Road, Laurel and Park Central Road, and the Holly Picnic Area will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:55 pm until 8:00 pm on May 6, 2026. During that closure, there will be a brief re-opening to allow vehicular traffic to flow along the affected area for vehicular egress, the timing of which will be decided by United States Park Police based on public safety needs.
Violation is prohibited. A map illustrating the closed park areas is attached.
This temporary closure and public use limit is necessary for the protection of pedestrians and cyclists who will participate in and observe a permitted bike race event on Park Central Road loop. Persons with vehicles parked at the Sweetgum Picnic Area, Holly Picnic Area, Laurel Picnic Area, Dogwood Trail, or any campers at any of the Greenbelt Park Campground locations who need to leave the park via vehicle during the above times should remove their vehicles from the areas described above by 5:55 pm on May 6, 2026 or otherwise plan to be unable to depart from the park for the duration of the permitted activity.
The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.
