Notice to the Public: Temporary Closure of the Historic Fort in Fort Washington Park

April 6, 2026: The National Park Service is temporarily closing the Historic Fort in Fort Washington Park while improvements to parts of the Historic Fort are completed. The closure will vary day by day, from a full closure when the drawbridge is being repaired to partial closures when specific areas of the Historic Fort are being improved. The Historic Fort in Fort Washington Park will be entirely or partially closed from 6:00 am on April 13, 2026, through 10:00 pm on April 24, 2026.

Violation is prohibited. A map illustrating the closed park areas is attached.

This temporary closure is necessary to protect public health and safety while repairs are made to parts of the Historic Fort such as the drawbridge, casemates, and interior rooms. Persons using these park areas should remove themselves and any personal property from the closed park areas by 6:00 am on April 13, 2026.

The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.
