Mary Muir Hand (1846 – 1928)

Mary Muir was the sister of John Muir, the well-known naturalist, conservationist, founder of the Sierra Club, and proponent of national parks. John invited his talented sister to California in 1897, stating, "the fares will be low, you will thus have one trip in your hard self denying life." This depiction of Yosemite may have been painted during her visit.
