The Two Regalities

Charles Dorman Robinson (1847 – 1933)
After 1880

Born in Maine, Robinson spent most of his life in California. He first traveled to Yosemite in 1880 and returned every year for the next two decades. In this painting of El Capitan at night, Robinson's masterful use of light and atmosphere reflects his early training with prominent artists of the Hudson River School.
