Entrance Hall

Family portraits cover the walls of the entrance hall. These include a copy of Charles Willson Peale’s Portrait [center] of George Washington, made by Ernest Fischer for Colonel and Mrs. Lee, and carried with them to military quarters after 1850. Above it, is a painted Fischer copied from a John Wollaston portrait of Martha Washington. A copy of the equestrian portrait of Washington at Yorktown was painted by G.W.P. Custis is on the left.
