In September 2004, on the bicentennial of the 1804 "Battle of Sitka," a direct descendent of Russian battle leader Aleksandr Baranov joined with descendents of Kiks.ádi warriors for a traditional Tlingit Cry ceremony to formally grieve lost ancestors. In the picture above, the K'alyaan Pole stands next to the tent housing the Cry ceremony in Sitka National Historical Park. The Kiks.ádi hosted a formal Reconciliation ceremony the following day to "put away" their grief of the last 200 years.
