Carl Sandburg's manuscript for The American Songbag includes three pages for each of 280 songs: piano accompaniment, song lyrics, and Sandburg's historic commentary. Musicians and musicologists assisted Sandburg with the piano accompaniments including Ruth Crawford (Seeger).
