Beginning with the creation of Yellowstone Park Timberland Reserve on March 30, 1891, supervising the forest reserves became the responsibility of the Department of the Interior. This “Forest Reserve Ranger, U.S. Department of the Interior” badge was in use from 1898 until 1905 when the responsibility for forest reserves transferred to the Department of Agriculture.
