Best Farm Slave Village: Personal Items

Personal Items are particularly interesting to archeologists, as they provide details about the daily lives of enslaved individuals; for example, the types of clothes they wore, games they played, and currency they used. See below for some examples of the personal items found at the L'Hermitage Slave Village in 2010:

A small blue glass bead shown with a scale.
A blue glass bead may have been a decorative element to a bracelet or necklace.

Five 18th century metal buttons
Plain buttons with wire shanks from clothing that may have been worn by enslaved individuals or cut off material to make blankets.

Two silver coins shown with a scale.
Silver coins - Spanish half reales with an image of King Carlos III, dated 1782 - were found at the site.
