Best Farm Slave Village: Architectural Materials

Architectural Materials include artifacts such as brick, mortar, stone and nails. These materials help us learn about the style, layout, and methods of the construction used for structures on the site. These materials can also help archeologists date the structures and learn what types of building materials were available to the enslaved individuals compared with those available to the plantation owners in construction of their houses. See below for some examples of the architectural artifacts found at the L'Hermitage Slave Village in 2010:
