Swamp Milkweed

Swamp Milkweed
Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata.)

Description: This plant has red flowers and grows to be 2 to 4 feet tall. It prefers wet conditions, but can do well in mesic conditions also. Swamp Milkweed is attractive to butterflies, and the stem exudes a milky latex when crushed.

Planting: Easily propagated from seed sown 1/2 inch deep in the soil. Sow seed in the spring. Transplants will be produced in one year, and the mature plants can be divided easily until they are four years old, when the root systems are too extensive.
