The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (NRRA) is the first Partnership National Park in the nation. The NRRA owns less than 100 acres of the over 50,000 acres within the national park boundary. To acomplish the NRRA's mission of preverving and enhancing the Mississippi River's resources in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitian Area the National Park Service offers financial assistace to cities, park districts, counties, and state agencies. Since 2011 the National Park Service has granted over 10 million dollars to partner site to improve trails, water accesses, natural resources, and education. Starting in 2024 the National Park Service began calling out these partnership projects with signage and classingfying the project area as a Partner Site. This site highlites some of the great partnership projects the NRRA is funding. Partner Sites These are a sampling of recent partner sites that recieved funding support from the National Park Service.
In 2019 and 2020 recieved a total of 1.18 million in financial assistance from the National Park Service to reconstruct the Minnehaha trail in Fort Snelling State Park.
