The Medgar and Myrlie Evers InstituteMyrlie Evers-Williams founded the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute to preserve and promote her husband’s legacy and to work for civil and human rights. Reena Evers-Everette, the daughter of Medgar and Myrlie Evers, returned to Mississippi in 2012 to serve as executive director of that organization. The NPS will consult with the Institute in sharing the Evers’s legacy with future generations.
Mississippi Department of Archives and HistoryThe Mississippi Department of Archives and History houses the Evers Papers Collection, which Myrlie Evers-Williams donated in 2002. Permanent civil rights exhibits at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson highlight Medgar Evers.
National Park FoundationThe National Park Foundation (NPF) is the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, and supports the agency in the preservation of our nation’s most meaningful places. Through a grant to the National Park Service, NPF provided the funds necessary to transition the Evers’ property from Tougaloo College.
Tougaloo CollegeTougaloo College, a private and historically black liberal arts college north of Jackson, Mississippi, managed and preserved the Evers Home from 1993 until its transition to the National Park Service in 2020. The college previously conducted house tours, and the NPS will consult with staff and students in planning ways to accommodate visitors.
Trust for Public LandTrust for Public Land (TPL) is an authorized philanthropic partner of the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument as part of TPL’s partnership with the National Park Service to open, activate, and restore irreplaceable sites in the South that had seminal roles in the Civil Rights Movement and the history of Black Americans. Trust for Public Land is a national nonprofit that works to connect everyone to the benefits and joys of the outdoors. Since 1972, TPL has worked with communities to create parks and protect public land where they are needed most. |
