Spotlight Saturday - The Blockhouse

Fort Larned National Historic Site

Description

Enjoy the overview of one misbehaving soldier, Private Michael Nicholas, stationed at Fort Larned in 1868 and the events surrounding his imprisonment. Originally built as a defensive position in response to a Kiowa raid in 1864, the Blockhouse was never used for its original purpose. Instead, to save money, the military turned it into their guardhouse where they kept misbehaving soldiers.
