Camille Horn - Permit Officer
Transcript
My name is Camille, and I work in Rocky Mountain National Park. I work in the commercial services office where we work with commercial operators who want to do business in the park. We issue them permits that regulates their activities and allows them to operate in the park.
I also issue permits for individuals who want to do special use activities in the park such as weddings, scattering ashes, or special events. My pathway to the park service started when I got a degree in environmental science with an emphasis in sustainable land management. I had three minors-- GIS, plant science, and sustainable design and development. During college, we had to do a five-year plan and working for the National Park Service was on mind.
I moved to Colorado after college and started working for county parks, and that led me to work for the National Park Service. During my positions at the county parks, I worked as a volunteer coordinator and a native seed collection coordinator. Those positions, especially the volunteer coordinator position led me to a role with the vegetation program as their volunteer coordinator here at the National Park Service.
I spent many years working as the volunteer coordinator for the veg crew and then I worked for the Alcon Vegetation Management crew where we did willow studies and also got to study some moose. Then after that I worked for the Research Learning Center as a learning specialist and as well after that, I worked as a GIS specialist.
So then moving forward, I got my position permanent with the admin division in the commercial services because of all my past positions. I had a lot of great skills that were transferable into this position. I hope you get to come visit Rocky Mountain National Park one day, and maybe you'll have a career here too.
