A'al Vaipia Digital Tour Preview

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

Descriptive Transcript

[A vista of the desert landscape, its rolling granite hills speckled with palo verdes, creosote, and saguaros. The camera pans and zooms on a verdant green smudge in the distance, a mesquite bosque surrounding a brilliant blue oasis.]

[The frame cuts to the mesquite bosque. We walk through the dappled shade of the trees and emerge at the banks of the oasis, A’al Vaipia. The water is a brilliant turquoise blue under a cobalt sky.]

[A redhead duck emerges from the water as a coot dives down.]

[Artificial islands float on the water, carrying aquatic plants.]

[The mid-morning sun colors the browning sedges a warm auburn.]

[Swallows and phoebes dive in and out of the frame.]

[An outflow pipe releases water, which trickles into a wash.]

[The shallow, trough-shaped refuge ponds are filled with cracked mud.]

[The camera strolls towards the canal that feeds the main pond. It’s tinged green with algae and aquatic plants. We can see the border fence in the distance.]
