At Sand Beach, a paved path leads away from the area where the changing rooms, bus stop, restrooms, and parking lot are located. At the head of a stairway leading down to the shore, a prominent sign lists regulations: No alcohol, glass containers, fires, camping, feeding wildlife, or flotation devices. From June 15 to September 8, no dogs, boat launching, fishing, or surfing.

Across from the sign, large stone blocks define an overlook that offers a view of the sandy beach and a rock called "Old Soaker." Here, two wayside exhibits provide information about Sand Beach.
