Fish Monitoring - Why Federal and State Agencies Zap the Fish in Zion National Park
Description
Zion National Park works with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to monitor fish populations in the Virgin River. By using electric backpacks scientists stun the fish so that they can catch and measure them. The size of the fish indicates the age, so scientists can see how well the population is doing!
This is all part of the Virgin River Program, which brings together state and federal agencies to protect his ecosystem.
