This Quiet Park - Hercules

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

Transcript

[00:06] Hello everyone, again, this is Ranger Chris Edwards. I thought we’d give you another peek behind the closed gates before the park reopens due to the pandemic here. We’re on the steam tug Hercules, in the engine room right now. There’s the triple expansion steam engine on this ocean tug, and you can see the cherry wood paneling here, so I thought we’d just give a walk around and then step outside.

[00:34] So we’re going to walk down this passageway here, we’ll make a right turn and step outside, give you a look around, but you’ll see that things are still pretty quiet.

[00:47] This is the boiler room. That’s the smokestack, basically; the boiler being way down there. But let’s step out through this door here.

[01:03] Alright. We’re back here to Hyde Street Pier, the ship Balclutha there on the right. The three-masted vessel is the lumber schooner C.A. Thayer. There’s the ferryboat Eureka that we were onboard last time.  And we’ll come up to the forward end here and turn around. There we go—steam tug Hercules. Thanks for tuning in.
