Jane Albritton: Hawai‘i's First Woman Park Ranger

Description

During the mid-1930s, an eager young woman began working at Hawai‘i National Park. Jane Albritton now returns to share recollections of her happy and exciting years here. She witnessed Kīlauea's spectacular 1934 eruption, guided visitors on tours and assisted Dr. Thomas Jaggar with his correspondence. She greeted famous visitors to the volcano including Amelia Earhart and President Franklin Roosevelt. Geophysicist John Dvorak, who is researching a book about Thomas Jaggar and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, will open the program with a short talk and historic slides of this era. Then Jane Albritton will reminisce about her experiences as Hawai‘i's first woman ranger.
