Home Of Franklin D Roosevelt National Historic Site

Description

Camp Tulelake was built in 1933 as a public work relief program, part of the New Deal of President Franklin Roosevelt. The camp was one of several constructed for the Civilian Conservation Corps. From one Roosevelt program, hailed as one of the greatest New Deal programs, to his signing of E.O. 9066, the camp was renamed the Tule Lake War Relocation Center and later Tule Lake Segregation Center. Yamaichi was one of thousands of Japanese Americans branded as disloyal in Tule Lake.
