Cultural Landscape at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park

Cultural Landscapes

Description

Appomattox Court House National Historic Park, the site of the April 9, 1865 surrender that led to the end of the Civil War, became a unit of the National Park Service in 1933. Since that time, development and preservation of the cultural landscape has been guided by planning documents, including a 2009 Cultural Landscape Report. This documents the landscape history, conditions, and recommended preservation treatment for the historically significant features of the site to guide its current and and future management.
