Vaccinating Glacier's Bats

Glacier National Park

Transcript

Bats are small, but they face big challenges.

The biggest threat is white-nose syndrome. This disease has decimated bat populations throughout North America.

Biologists have been inventorying and monitoring bats in Glacier. Once WNS arrives, this data will be the best tool to assess the impacts of the disease on Glacier’s bats.

In collaboration with the National Wildlife Health Center, scientists in Glacier and other places are vaccinating bats to protect them from white nose syndrome. The good news is that researchers across the country are working to ensure the survival of this small but significant species.
