COLLECTION DESCRIPTION SOURCES CONSULTED U.S. census records for Vermont, 1820 - 1870, were searched for the names of all the individuals mentioned in the letters. The Vermont 1840 census, roll 542, page 263 lists a William Galusha in Berkshire, Vt. His household consisted of: 1 male 65 - 70; 1 male 10 - 15; 1 female, 65 - 70; 1 female, 40 - 50; 1 female, 15 - 20; and 2 females under 5. This is the only mention of the family in Berkshire in these census records. The 1860 Vermont census has many Kendalls, all in Enosburg, Vermont. U.S. census records for Wisconsin for 1850 - 1870 were searched for references to William Kendall. No references were found. U.S. census records for Oregon for 1850 and 1860 were searched for references to S. M. Armstrong No references were found. Vermont Vital Statistics, listed alphabetically and covering the years 1760 - 1870, verify the death of Rev. William Galusha, Amy Galusha's birth and death, A. Leland Galusha and Sarah Armstrong's marriage, and the birth and death of their unnamed infant daughter. These Vermont records contain no information on the Armstrong family represented in this collection except for the above referenced marriage.
