Making DC Safe and Beautiful

The National Park Service and U.S. Park Police are working to improve park spaces in the nation's capital, including over $866 million in rehabilitation projects.

Since the March 28, 2025, Executive Order on “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful,” the National Park Service (NPS) has accelerated a wave of improvements across the nation’s capital, making NPS parks cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for residents and visitors.

From restoring historic memorials to revitalizing neighborhood green spaces, these efforts reflect our commitment to preserving the beauty, history, and accessibility of the public lands entrusted to our care.

Recent restoration work has improved conditions across the Tidal Basin and National Mall, including new cherry tree plantings and upgraded infrastructure to better support visitors and protect park resources. These improvements are supported in part by the Great American Outdoors Act, which is helping address critical infrastructure needs across national parks.
