Silver Clock

A silver clock by the Concord Watch Company of Switzerland.

A small clock with an Adamesque style engraved silver case and a folding stand, manufactured by the Concord Watch Company.  The Concord Watch Co. was a Swiss firm, founded in 1908, with the express aim of producing timepieces for the American market.  In 1915 the company began using gemstones and precious metals as decorative elements and in their watches, and was one of the first watchmakers to do so.  Concord Watch Co. clocks and watches were also sold by famous jewelers, including Cartier and Tiffany & Co.

This clock is displayed in the master bedroom of the Beals Street house, next to the bed in which John F. Kennedy was born.  Like all other timepieces in the house, it is set to read 3:00, the afternoon hour at which the future President Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917.  It is not known if this clock was in the house at the time of the President's birth, but it was specifically selected by Rose Kennedy from the family's own collection of furnishings, and it is a period-appropriate piece for the house.
