BioBlitz 101 Educator Workshop

Help make history at Indiana Dunes by participating in the National Park Service/National Geographic BioBlitz. While the big event will be held May 15-16, 2009, educators are invited to learn monitoring techniques and research methods in this preparatory workshop in March. Join other educators get involved in planning and developing BioBlitz activities for your students. Participate in BioBlitz-type activities and receive curriculum materials for your classroom in this immersive workshop. Sessions begin at 9 a.m., Saturday and continue through 5 p.m., with an option to stay overnight in the Learning Center’s comfortable cabins that evening. Nocturnal studies will be available for those opting to stay overnight.

Participants can earn 1 hr. of graduate credit for this workshop if you bring your group to the BioBlitz and document your experience. Credit is available through Indiana University Northwest or Chicago State University, for an extra cost. Illinois teachers can receive CEUs for participating, and Indiana teachers can receive CRU’s.

Registration is limited so call the IDELC at 219-395-9555 or email gpetersen@duneslearningcenter.org to receive a registration packet and reserve a spot before the deadline of March 2. Cost of the workshop is $30 and includes lunch and lots of materials; the overnight option will cost an extra $30 and covers dinner and breakfast on Sunday!
