Responsibilities
Your active participation by staying engaged and asking questions is very important to the student's learning experience and benefits everyone.
-
Assist with safety. Your primary responsibility is the students’ safety. Rangers carry first aid kits and radios and will show the group how to hike and recreate safely while in the park.
-
They are still in school. School rules apply while at the park. Rangers are provided as program facilitators. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for students’ behavior. Respect each other, keep hands to yourself, no running, raise your hand to speak, etc.
-
Be an active participant. Ask questions and engage in the activities too. Students will want to participate if you do!
-
Guide the learning process. Help focus students on the activity or speaker during the program.
-
Help set boundaries and provide leadership. Make sure students follow park rules.
-
Do not bring siblings who are not part of the class. Your full attention is needed to help monitor the students assigned to you that day.
-
Cell Phones. Adults should leave cell phones turned off or on silent during the field trip.
-
No Smoking. Smoking is not allowed during park programs, including lunch.
Most importantly… go with the flow, adapt, and have fun in Haleakalā National Park! The students pick up on how you act… if you are having fun, they will too! Following these principles and park rules will help make your park visit a safe, successful learning experience while also caring for park resources.
