Closure, restrictions and public use limits
Closure Order – Portion of a Park Area: Under the authority provided to the Superintendent in 36 CFR 1.5, the follow park areas and facilities are closed, effective immediately, until further notice:
• Great Falls Park Visitor Center
• Clara Barton House (National Historical Site)
Notice: This administrative order applies to all individuals subject to the regulatory authority of the National Park Service (NPS) within the boundaries of George Washington Memorial Parkway, Clara Baron National Historical Site, Clara Barton Parkway and its administrative units, including park visitors, except as follows:
• Contractors performing business for the National Park Service (e.g. landscaping, mowing, custodial, construction)
• Nothing in this order is intended to prevent the National Park Service, its employees, volunteers, partners, contractors, subcontractors or designees from access and fulfilling their administrative duties and responsibilities.
Finding: The NPS issues this administrative order for the purposes of maintaining public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency. This order is consistent with local, state, and federal public health directives.
These directives require the NPS to take the actions identified above because:
• Public health directive requires social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19.
• Closure of visitor centers and historic buildings allow for the continued use of parking lots, restrooms, trails, open space, and green space where social distancing is more feasible.
This order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until January 15,2021. The effectiveness of this order will be assessed on an ongoing basis and will be modified or removed when conditions warrant.
