Course Description

This 4 hour class will prepare students for building forms and applications for use with ESRI's ArcPAD data collection software. Participants will build an ArcPAD form and learn what is required to produce a custom application for use with ArcPAD.

Migrating Coverages into the Geodatabase

Course Description: Compared to the coverage or shapefile model, the ArcGIS geodatabase data model provides more opportunities for modeling real-world objects. This workshop teaches the tools and techniques used for migrating spatial and attribute data into the geodatabase. You will learn how to create a personal geodatabase and use ArcGIS conversion utilities to migrate your existing coverages and INFO files into geodatabase feature datasets, feature classes, and tables. You will also learn about geodatabase topology, and storing raster images in an enterprise geodatabase.

Course Description: This class is a practical overview of sensor systems, the electromagnetic spectrum, recognizing spectral patterns, and supervised image classification. What's New in ArcGIS 9

Course Description: An introduction of new ArcGIS 9 functionalities and enhancements and a comparison to earlier ArcGIS versions. Using demos and examples, your instructor will introduce you to Geoprocessing in ArcGIS 9. You will also learn about new capabilities in the geodatabase and new functionality in ArcMap and ArcCatalog. This is not a hands-on class but it will include demonstrations and examples.

How to Use the NPS Sensitivity Area Model (SAM) for ArcView 3x

Course Description: This hands-on class introduces the basic concepts of SAM and how to use SAM for doing weighted analysis or value maps of resource management issues. This module was originally developed to standardize air tour management planning and recommend sensitive areas for no fly zones. Recommendations, alternatives, and examples of weighting schemes for park resources will be addressed.

Garmin and ArcView

Course Description

You ever wonder how to effieciently transfer GIS data to/from a Garmin GPS reciever? C'mon, take a look!. This session will include collection of waypoints and tracks using a Garmin Map76S GPS reciever followed by importing these data into ESRI's ArcView 3.3. Class is taught by Christopher Pouliot, the developer of DNRGarmin, and will cover a DNRGarmin Quick Tour, enhancements in the new 4.2 version including full projection capabilities, hotlinking to photos, and compatibility with ArcGIS environments.

Trimble GEO XT (TerraSync) to Pathfinder Office

Course Description

Students will learn how to collect data with Trimble's new GeoXT handheld using TerraSync data collection software. The GeoXT provides submeter accuracy, data maintenance capability, and EVEREST multipath rejection technology for tough GPS environments. These handhelds integrate Windows CE operating system, BlueTooth wireless technology, GPS reciever and touch-screen access to background data including georeferenced image maps. Participants will collect data outside and view data in Trimble's Pathfinder Office software.

Taking Digital Photos with GPS

Participants will be introduced to taking digital photos and linking them to GPS position data collected with Garmin Map76C GPS receivers. Students will collect photos and will process them in a classroom using PC's and conduct a tour of the program's capability including watermarked photos, linking to web maps, and GIS outputs.

Participants will learn important aspects of how to plan and execute a successful GPS project. Migrating to ArcView 8

Course Description

This one-day class introduces ArcView 3.x users to the features and architecture of ArcView 8. Students learn how the new ArcView 8 terminology and features compare with ArcView 3.x, how to use the new Windows-based applications: ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox, and how these applications work together. Students also learn how to create, edit, and georeference spatial data, as well as manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, label map data, and present their data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. This course will also compare the use of ArcView 3.x scripts and extensions to the implementation of custom code using dll files and custom macros.

Remote Sensing II: Land Cover Classification and Change Detection

Course Description: Lecture and Hands-on exercises cover supervised classification, error matrix, accuracy assessment, and seasonal and temporal land cover change analysis techniques. Various commercial satellite data will be utilized during the change detection exercise to emphasize resolution and spectral variables on output products and maps. Attendees without any previous remote sensing experience are encouraged to participate in the Remote Sensing I class offered on Monday, December 1.

Spatial Odyssey Metadata Training Workshop

Course Description

This session provides users with some helpful tips and tricks for using the Trimble Pathfinder Office Software. Topics include tips on editing features and attributes, differential correction settings and export settings including the DATUM tarpit. This session will also provide some tips on reducing common procedures with the batch processor, when to use grouping and combine and a tour of the Coordinate System Manager, a handy editor that gives you access to your geodetic database for transferring coordinate systems to CE based dataloggers. New updates in Pathfinder Office v. 3.0 will be highlighted.
