Training

Tim Clark

Tim is part of the ESRI - Denver's Federal Land and Resources team. Tim is currently working as a Senior Technical Analyst with a focus on supporting high-level enterprise GIS deployments at the various Department of Agriculture agencies and Department of Interior Bureaus. In addition, Tim specializes in applying GIS in the natural resources vertical market. Tim started working At ESRI - Denver, in 1997. Since that time, Tim has also servers as the Group Leader over a Professional Services team providing support services for ArcSDE implementation and general GIS consulting services. Tim has developed an extensive working knowledge in ArcSDE implementation for ORACLE. Tim has also supervised ESRI staff supporting ArcSDE implementation for Microsoft SQL Server and Informix databases.

Tim has also provided advanced technical training covering the ArcGIS suite of GIS tools at ESRI Denver.s in-house training center as well as client site facilities. Tim consistently received excellent course evaluations for his overall quality of training.

Tim earned his B.S. degree in Forest Management from the School of Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife at the University of Missouri in 1982. After graduation, Tim worked as a professional field Forester in the Ozark Plateau of West Central Missouri. Tim has also served as the Region 2 GIS Coordinator for the USDA Forest Service, as well as held GIS positions at the USEPA and Jefferson County Colorado Mapping Department.



Chris Buhi

Chris started working at the ESRI Charlotte Regional office in 1994 as a Technical Applications Specialist and split time between technical marketing and consulting projects. He transferred to the ESRI Northwest office in Olympia, Washington in 1998 and joined the consulting and implementation services group. He primarily works in the Northwest with in a wide variety of application areas spanning several generations of ESRI software, including Workstation ArcInfo, Arcview 3.x, ArcSDE, and the ArcGIS suite. His primary areas of expertise include application development with Visual Basic and ArcObjects or Avenue, Geodatabase design, and ArcSDE implementation. Chris developed the SAM Arcview extension in conjunction with NPS staff.

Chris obtained a BA in geography from the University of Florida in 1992 and a MS in geography at the University of Tennessee in 1994 before joining ESRI. He traveled to Ecuador and Costa Rica to study soil hydraulic conductivity in tropical rainforest soils for his thesis. While in graduate school, he worked part time building end user GIS applications for the Tennessee Valley Authority.



Eric Brown de Colstoun

Eric is a Senior Research Scientist with Science Systems and Applications, Inc., currently working with the Landsat Data Continuity Mission at the Biospheric Sciences Branch, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His primary interests are biogeography, land cover classification methods and algorithms and land cover/use analysis. Eric is currently developing land cover/use classification and change tool using Landsat data over two parks in the Upper Delaware River Basin. Previously, Eric worked on the algorithm team for the Visible/Infrared Imager/Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) to be flown on future generation satellites and led the development of the global surface type algorithm. Eric received his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Geography from the University of Maryland at Collage Park in 2001 and 1993, respectively. Previously, he received a B.A. degree in Mathematics form the Colorado College in 1986.



Ross Nelson

Ross has a PhD in Forest Biometry, from Virginia Tech, 1994, MS in Forestry/Remote Sensing from Purdue University, 1979, and a BS in Forest Management from the University of Maine Orono, 1974. His Research topic general interests center on: The use of airborne lader data to characterize the forest canopy and to estimate forest biomass, volume, and carbon. The use of AVHRR and Landsat digital data to monitor tropical and subtropical forest conversion. And Development of statistical and image processing procedures for subcontinental and continental resource assessment using satellite imagery.



Mike Story

Mike is a Senior Physical Scientist with the Natural Resources Information Division of the National Park Service. He has been working on the NPS Vegetation Mapping Program (a component of the Inventory and Monitoring Program) since 1993. Prior to joining the National Park Service in 1992, Mike served as a Remote Sensing Applications Scientist with the Bureau of Land Management (1987 - 1992). At BLM Mike worked in the Remote Sensing Lab at the Denver Service Center focusing on image analysis techniques for mapping and monitoring vegetation, mining activity and surface disturbance. From 1984 - 1987 Mike worked as a contractor for NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center in Remote Sensing applied research. His primary focus was the use of Landsat Thematic Mapper Data and data from the Shuttle Imaging Radar (SIR-B). Mike has been a member of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing since 1982 and has served as the Chairman of the Committee on the Environment. Mike's degrees (BS and MA) are in Geography with an emphasis in Biology and Remote Sensing from East Tennessee State University and Virginia Tech.



Willy Lynch

Willy has more than 10 years of experience in GIS as a professional geologist and about three years of current experience exclusively with ESRI's ArcGIS products. He joined ESRI in 2002 and currently works at the ESRI.Denver regional office where he is a GIS instructor. He has expertise in teaching Introduction to ArcGIS I, Introduction to ArcGIS II, Introduction to ArcGIS Survey Analyst, and Working with ArcPad workshops.

In addition to teaching standard instructor-led classes, Willy also teaches custom training classes for the Bureau of Land Management National Integrated Land System and has special interest in the survey industry, mobile solutions, and applied natural resource and geology GIS projects.

From 2001 to 2002, Willy was the GIS coordinator for the Lummi Indian Nation in Bellingham, Washington, where he successfully revitalized and expanded a high-quality, interdisciplinary natural resource and tribal government GIS program. Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years as a professional geologist successfully generating, implementing, and managing complex GIS, geotechnical, and mineral exploration programs at locations worldwide.

Willy is an avid windsurfer, telemark skier, snowboarder, and general outdoor activity enthusiast.
