2008 NYC Marathon Fort Wadsworth Information

THE NEW YORK CITY MARATHON – NOVEMBER 2, 2008

Closures in Fort Wadsworth begin at 3 a.m. November 2, 2008

· New York Avenue between Battery Road & Bay Street/Main Gate

· Marshall Road

· Drum Road

· Coast Guard Drive

· Mont Sec Avenue (residents should park in rear alley in designated parking spots along North & South Roads)

Access 11/2 – Beginning at 3 a.m., Fort Wadsworth residents and employees should enter and exit Fort Wadsworth by using the back gate (McClean Avenue). The Bay Street and New York Avenue Gates are for the Marathon and will re-open at 2:00 p.m. The Verrazano Bridge will be closed from the Brooklyn side at 7:00 a.m. on November 2, 2008. All employees who are working on Sunday, November 2, 2008 and commuting from Brooklyn must be at Fort Wadsworth by 6:00 a.m.

Parking – There will be no parking in the area adjacent to the Coast Guard Gym, Chapel and Buildings 120 (Visitor Center), 208 (U.S. Army) and 210 (NPS HQ) and Building 356 (USARC), Building 355 (US Park Police) and Building 352 (Carriage House) after 8:00 p.m. on October 31, and no parking on November 1 and November 2. Please be sure to move government and personal vehicles from these areas by 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 31. Parking (all vehicles) is available at Seabee Park and regular residential areas. NPS staff working the event should park along Mont Sec Avenue.

Please note: All Roads west of New York Avenue will be closed between 3:00 a.m. and

2:00 p.m. on November 2.

Chapel Services – The schedule of services for Saturday and Sunday has been changed to accommodate the start of the Marathon. Please check posted schedules or consult the Chaplain.

MTA Bus Schedules and Routing – On November 2, the nearest bus stop will be at the intersection of Fingerboard Road and Bay Street. Buses will run on their regular schedule, with the exception of the bus to Brooklyn. There will be no service between Brooklyn and Staten Island between 7:30 a.m. and 12 Noon on November 2; service before 8:00 a.m. will be subject to bridge closures.

Closures Outside the Fort – The following roads will be closed by NYPD from 5 a.m. to 12 Noon on November 2:

· Bay Street – from Fingerboard Road to School Road

· School Road – from Tompkins Avenue to Bay Street

Event Details – Runners will start arriving via the bridge access to the Fort beginning at 5:00 a.m. on November 2.
