Bay 9 RFP Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are the picnic tables/benches currently stored inside of Bay 9 available for use by the selected Applicant?

A. The picnic table/benches currently stored inside Bay 9 are park property and may be utilized in connection with park projects. The National Park Service is unable to guarantee availability of park property and recommends applicants provide or otherwise obtain personal property in the form of tables, benches and umbrellas sufficient for the proposed use.

Q. Is there a separate process for Veterans when applying for the Bay 9/East Mall at Jacob Riis Park Leasing Opportunity at Gateway National Recreation Area?

A: Veterans are welcome to submit a response as directed in the Request for Proposals (RFP) but Veterans do not have special status.

Q. What is the number of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly visitors to Riis Beach during the past 3 to 5 years?

A. Park visitation is highest in the summer and "shoulder" seasons. The table included below identifies the number of cars entering through the fee collection area at Riis Park in Gateway National Recreation Area (NRA) but does not account for the number of visitors per car, and the significant number of visitors accessing Riis Park by other means of transportation such as ferry, shuttle, MTA bus, on foot or by bicycle.
