In 2019-2020, as part of the National Park Foundation (www.nationalparks.org) Open Outdoors for Kids grant opportunity, Gateway National Recreation Area partnered with New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (njseagrant.org) and Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (jbrpc.org) to expand programming opportunities to under-resourced communities around the park and beyond. As of March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic was quickly altering daily life in New York City, we were poised to serve thousands of students with in-person programming. Despite the challenges, we quickly revised our course.
