Administrative Permits

Introduction

Chiricahua National Monument, Coronado National Memorial, and Fort Bowie National Historic Site are managed under the Southeast Arizona (SEAZ) Group within the National Park Service (NPS). While the enabling legislation and the resources for each may vary, private and commercial activities that occur on these public lands are managed in the same way.

Such activities are allowed when they are consistent with the mission of the SEAZ Group and if they will not harm the resource or interfere with the visitor experience.

We are mandated to recover costs to the US government for the management of the permit programs. Application fees are required for all permits except those issued for First Amendment activities. Costs for any necessary activity monitoring or resource restoration would be the responsibility of the permittee.

Questions about the different types of permits and whether your activity needs one? Contact the SEAZ Group Permit Coordinator at (520) 824-3560 x9201.

Commercial Use Authorizations

Commercial Use Authorizations (CUAs) are 2-year authorizations granted to commercial operators for activities the SEAZ Leadership Team has determined to be appropriate for these sites. Currently, CUAs are issued for the following guided tours: hiking, biking, horseback riding, and motorized vehicle (auto/van/bus). CUAs are also issued for photography instruction.

The non-refundable application fee for a CUA is $300. There are also insurance and licensing requirements.

Please see the Commercial Use Authorization Application Form for more information.

Special Use Permits

Special Use Permits (SUPs) are permits granted to private persons or groups for short-term activities that require some degree of management by the NPS. Examples include weddings, family reunions, sporting events, and the scattering of ashes.

The non-refundable application fee for a SUP is $100. Depending on the activity, liability insurance and/or a security deposit may be required.

Please see the Special Use Permit Application Form for more information.

First Amendment Permits

Special Use Permits (SUPs) are also issued for short-term activities that involve First Amendment Rights. Specific locations (.pdf) have been designated within each of the three SEAZ sites for these activities.

The application fee is waived for First Amendment SUPs. However, the permittee can be held responsible for the cost of resource restoration should damage occur.

Please see the Special Use Permit Application Form for more information.

Commercial Film/Photography Permits

Special Use Permits (SUPs) are also issued for short-term activities that involve commercial filming or photography. Please visit this site for important changes to the filming policy in NPS units. If the activity involves talent (in front of the camera) or crew (behind the camera), or it involves sets, props, and equipment, then it likely needs this kind of permit.

The non-refundable application fee for a Commercial Film/Photo SUP is $100. The following are also required: liability insurance and a daily location fee. A security deposit may also be required.

Please see the Commercial Film/Photo Special Use Permit Application Form for more information.
