Administrative Permits

Introduction

Chiricahua National Monument, Coronado National Memorial, and Fort Bowie National Historic Site are managed under the Southeast Arizona (SEAZ) Group within the National Park Service (NPS). While the enabling legislation and the resources for each may vary, private and commercial activities that occur on these public lands are managed in the same way.

Such activities are allowed when they are consistent with the mission of the SEAZ Group and if they will not harm the resource or interfere with the visitor experience.

We are mandated to recover costs to the US government for the management of the permit programs. Application fees are required for all permits except those issued for First Amendment activities. Costs for any necessary activity monitoring or resource restoration would be the responsibility of the permittee.

Questions about the different types of permits and whether your activity needs one? Contact the SEAZ Group Permit Coordinator via email or call and leave a message with your name and callback number at (520) 824-3560 x9208.

Commercial Use Authorizations

Commercial Use Authorizations (CUAs) will not be issued through the NPS online system for 2026. Commercial operators interested in offering photography instruction or in leading hiking, biking, horseback riding, and motorized vehicle tours should contact us via the methods shown above for a letter of authorization. There is no charge for this.

Special Use Permits

Special Use Permits (SUPs) are permits granted to private persons or groups for short-term activities that require some degree of management by the NPS. Examples include weddings, family reunions, sporting events, and the scattering of ashes.

The non-refundable application fee for a SUP is $100. Depending on the activity, liability insurance and/or a security deposit may be required.

Please see the Special Use Permit 10-930 Application Form for more information.

Film/Photography and Audio Recording Permits

Special Use Permits (SUPs) may also be issued for short-term activities that involve filming, photography or audio recording. Please visit Filming, Still Photography, and Audio Recording (U.S. National Park Service)for important updates to the NPS’s filming policy. Please contact us to discuss your project.

If it is determined that the activity warrants a permit, the non-refundable application fee is $100. Proof of liability insurance and a daily location fee will be required. A security deposit may also be required.

Please see the Special Use Permit 10-932 Application Form for more information.

First Amendment Permits – Demonstrations and Distribution of Materials

First Amendment activities are only authorized in specifically designated sites within NPS units.

The application fee is waived for this type of SUP. However, the permittee can be held responsible for the cost of resource restoration should damage occur.

Please see the Special Use Permit 10-934 Application Form for more information.

Payment

We no longer accept cards, cash or checks for permit related fees and charges. If your activity requires a permit with a fee, we will guide you to make payment through www.pay.gov .
